Sarah Fernandez - working with longarm quilter

My name is Sara, and I grew up in Spain, where I learned the basics of sewing from my grandmother, a talented seamstress. When I was 16, I was volunteering in the school library and expressed an interest in learning how to quilt. The librarian responded, “Well, you’re in luck because I’m the president of the quilters’ guild!”—true story! She taught me traditional piecing, foundation paper piecing (FPP), and basic quilting skills, and I got to experiment with her extensive fabric stash.
Since then, quilting has been my main creative outlet. I love working with bright colors, fun prints, and especially big medallion quilts—they’re my favorite! I now live in Oxford, UK, where I teach quilting and share my passion for fabric with others.
